OBESITY
SURERGY: A worthy consideration: |
| You are eligible for obesity surgery if: |
 |
Your BMI is over 40 or above |
 |
Your BMI is 35 or above with related health conditions |
|
| |
| Some obesity surgery options are: |
Gastric
Banding: |
A soft band is placed around the stomach shaping it like an hourglass. This reduces the amount of food you can consume at one time and makes you fee full sooner and for a longer time. You therefore eat less and lose weight. |
| |
Sleever
gastrectomy: |
The size of the stomach is reduced in this technique by cutting it like a tube-also known as a “hockey stick). This reduces the size of the stomach and the hunger, which makes you feel full with lesser quantity of food and subsequently makes you lose weight. |
| |
Gastric
by-pass: |
| The size of the stomach is reduced and the digestion process altered. You will: |
 |
Reduce the amount of food you eat at any one meal |
 |
Absorb less of the food you do eat |
 |
Become intolerant to food you should avoid (concentrated sugar and fats) |
|
| |
| Alternative Procedures: |
Two other alternative procedures are available where the accent is not on weight loss, but on contouring the body surface by reducing the excess from few sites, thus reducing the weight by 6-8 kgs. |
 |
Liposuction: |
| |
It is the least invasive and is done by sucking out the from arms, thighs, buttocks and lower abdomen after melting it though tiny holes. The advantage is that it’s a day care procedure with faster recovery. |
|
 |
Abdominoplasty: |
| |
Famously called as “Tummy Tuck” is meant for persons with flabby belly. By this method all excess fat tissue are knocked off and associated hernia is also repaired. |
|
| |
Weight
Loss Procedures: |
| Bariatric surgery, also known as weight loss surgery, refers to the various surgical procedures performed to treat obesity by modification of the gastrointestinal tract to reduce nutrient intake and/or absorption. |
